Meet Tony Evans

Candidate for New York State's 13th District


Robert A. "Tony" Evans, Jr. is an experienced advocate and trial attorney. Tony is a former international corporate banker at CitiGroup and has been a resident of Central Harlem since 2002.

After leaving Wall Street Tony opened The Law Offices of R.A. Evans Jr. P.C. in 2008 in Central Harlem. The practice grew steadily and moved to 145th St. when it merged and became Evans & Al Shabazz LLP in 2011. Tony's practice focuses on complicated or difficult matters, primarily those that are headed to trial.  As lead counsel Tony has tried cases all over NY State and in several of the U.S. District Courts (recent cases in Boston, Brooklyn, New York).

An experienced negotiator and businessman Tony has never before sought public office though he has been very active in his local causes focused on his church and community and his family.  A native of North Carolina, Tony graduated from Fairmont State College (WV), the Univeristy of Louisville, New York Law School.

Tony married Shawn Bowles, a native New Yorker, in 1992.  Their son, Robert Anthony Evans III, 'Anthony' is currently a senior at Williams College studying Economics &History.  Jonathan, Tony's son from his first marriage, is an attorney at The Johnny Cochran Law Firm in Los Angeles, California. Tony's father, Robert, is retired after serving the City of New York in the Family Courts, in Queens near Tony's extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.  

The Evans family are members of the parish at St. Charles Borromeo on 141st Street. Where Anthony served as an alter server and received his religious education and was confirmed, Tony has previously served as the Parish Trustee (2yrs) and member of the Parish Council (6 years) as well as taking on roles for fundraising and capital campaigns.  Tony has also served as independent board member of the St. John Paul II Senior Center - leading it through a long delayed re-financing and HUD re-financing.  Tony also led St. Charles' Finance Committee spearheading a significant capital improvement campaign that raised over $2 million dollars to repair the roof, the boiler for the St. Charles elementary school and the purchase of a new organ.  For the last 12 years Tony has served as the Director of the St. Charles Men's Chorus along with W. Mark Howell, Director of Music.  Tony also just completed a five year term on the board of The Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem - an organization dedicated to supporting Christians in the Holy Land.

Tony Evans is not a professional politician - he's a experienced advocate and negotiator who will stand up for our needs in Washington. Tony can bring his broad experinece in banking, finance and the law to representing the people of this district. Tony will be a strong and independent voice for the community.
